Packers stay busy with Nelson, Graham, Wilkerson

What a day for the Green Bay Packers.

Jordy Nelson is no longer on the team, and there are several reasons why. First, Nelson reportedly declined to take a pay cut.

Additionally, Nelson’s numbers were way down last season, although much of that can be attributed to Brett Hundley replacing Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Rodgers had a 102.8 passer rating last season when targeting Nelson, while Hundley’s passer rating was 34.6.

Although, as a whole, the numbers that Nelson and Rodgers put up together are absolutely incredible. As pointed out  by Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire, Rodgers’s career passer rating while targeting Nelson was 123.9, including 65 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.

But clearly, the Packers thought tight end Jimmy Graham could have a bigger impact on the offense than Nelson, as they gave the former a three-year contract reportedly worth $30 million.

Graham caught 10 touchdowns last season for the Seahawks, and gives the Packers a new starter at a position that was starving for help.

Finally, the Packers added to their defense by signing free-agent defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson, who visited Green Bay last week. His contract is a one-year deal worth $5 million, plus $3 million in incentives, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Apparently, Wilkerson’s visit to Green Bay last week went well.
