Packers pass rush: Reggie Gilbert to the rescue?

Last year, we thought the Packers might spend an early draft pick on an edge rusher. They waited until the first pick in the fourth round to pick Wisconsin outside linebacker Vince Biegel.

Last month, we (again) thought they might pick a pass rusher early in the draft. They waited until the seventh round to take Southeast Missouri State’s Kendall Donnerson.

What if the Packers just like the guys they have already more than people on the outside? Head coach Mike McCarthy praised second-year outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert over the weekend at Rookie Orientation.

“It’s incredible what he’s done in his time here,” McCarthy said. “You talk about a guy that has done everything, has taken advantage of every resource that’s been available to him. It’s great having him out there. He’s a great example for these young players.”

McCarthy joked that Gilbert was moving around so well, he was considering moving the pass rusher to tight end. But while tight end seems to be in good shape with free-agent acquisition Jimmy Graham, the Packers returning pass rushers have a golden opportunity to earn playing time.

What do you think, Fan Nation? Gilbert? Biegel? Who’s going to step up and make a splash behind Clay Matthews and Nick Perry?
