One more (mock) draft before the (actual) 2018 NFL Draft

By MARQUES EVERSOLL

It’s finally here.

I remember starting a countdown — every Thursday on the air — when we were 14 weeks away from the Packers making the 14th pick. Now, here we are. And we’ll see if the Packers even make the 14th pick, or if they trade up or down.

If you missed our on-air mock draft Wednesday on “Air it Out,” check out the podcast at TheFan1075.com. We had beat writers from the 12 teams making the first 13 picks, then collaborated to pick for the Packers. That mock draft is also outlined below my projection below.

So, here it goes:

1 — CLEVELAND BROWNS — QB BAKER MAYFIELD — OKLAHOMA — I’ve believed this pick would be Sam Darnold for a long time, but I changed my mind. Maybe I’m buying too much into the smoke here, but personally, I’d be between Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen if I’m the Browns. I like the pick.

(“Air it Out” pick — QB Sam Darnold) — Jeff Risdon: The Browns Wire

2 — NEW YORK GIANTS — QB SAM DARNOLD — USC — If Darnold is off the board, this is Saquon Barkley. No question.

(“Air it Out” pick — RB Saquon Barkley Barkley) — Pat Leonard: New York Daily News

3 — NEW YORK JETS — QB JOSH ROSEN — UCLA — Lately, there’s been rumors that the Browns could take Baker Mayfield at No. 1. At the same time there’s been talk of a “late push” for Josh Rosen with the Jets. (Coincidence?)

(“Air it Out” pick — Rosen) — Darryl Slater: The Star-Ledger & NJ.com

4 — CLEVELAND BROWNS — DE BRADLEY CHUBB — NORTH CAROLINA ST.

(“Air it Out” pick — Chubb) — Jeff Risdon: The Browns Wire

5 — BUFFALO BILLS (FROM DEN) — QB JOSH ALLEN — WYOMING — Four quarterbacks in the Top 5? It’s hard to stay patient, I suppose. Bills move up to get their quarterback, while the Broncos move down and get more talent.

(“Air it Out” pick — Broncos QB Baker Mayfield) — Kyle Fredrickson: Denver Post

6 — INDIANAPOLIS COLTS — LB ROQUAN SMITH — GEORGIA

(“Air it Out” pick — Smith) — Zak Keefer: Indy Star

7 — TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS — RB SAQUON BARKLEY — PENN STATE — This is the furthest I could see Barkley falling. What a steal this would be.

(“Air it Out” pick — Nelson) — Thomas Bassinger: Tampa Bay Times

8 — CHICAGO BEARS — OG QUENTON NELSON — NOTRE DAME — To use a “draft cliche,” the Bears sprint to the podium for this pick.

(“Air it Out” pick — S Minkah Fitzpatrick) — Nick Shepkowski: 670 The Score

9 — SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS — LB TREMAINE EDMUNDS — VIRGINIA TECH — This could be a curveball pick. They’ve been tied to a lot of players. Edmunds gives them insurance for Reuben Foster.

(“Air it Out” pick — EDGE Harold Landry) — Oscar Aparicio: Better Rivals Podcast

10 — ARIZONA CARDINALS (FROM OAK) — S MINKAH FITZPATRICK — ALABAMA — Perfect trade-up spot. Someone could come calling for a quarterback here. Otherwise, a common comparison for Minkah Fitzpatrick is a “bigger Tyrann Mathieu,” so that makes sense for Arizona.

(“Air it Out” pick — CB Denzel Ward) — Matt Schneidman (Bay Area News Group)

11 — MIAMI DOLPHINS — DT VITA VEA — WASHINGTON — Large human being (6-5 340) who could help fill the hole left by Ndamukong Suh.

(“Air it Out” pick — LB Tremaine Edmunds) — Armando Salguero (Miami Herald)

12 — DENVER BRONCOS (FROM BUF) — CB DENZEL WARD — OHIO STATE — If Ward and James both get the No. 12, this could be where the Packers move up a few spots to make sure they get one, probably with Miami at No. 11. But if the board falls like this — and the Broncos move down, but still get Ward at 12 — then, damn.

(“Air it Out” pick — Bills QB Josh Allen) — Matt Fairburn (NY Upstate & syracuse.com)

13 — WASHINGTON REDSKINS — S DERWIN JAMES — FLORIDA ST. — If Derwin James were still on the board for the Packers, he’d be a no-brainer for me. So, naturally, expect the Redskins to take someone the Packers covet before they have the chance to pick him.

(“Air it Out” pick — S Derwin James) — JP Findlay (NBC Washington)

14 — GREEN BAY PACKERS — EDGE HAROLD LANDRY — BOSTON COLLEGE — This has been “my pick” for a long time. Why? 1) Because he’s a really underrated prospect, and 2) I think this is where the line intersects between Talent & Value. If the three defensive backs — James, Fitzpatrick and Ward — are off the board, then Landry will likely be there. And the Packers should pick him. If Landry goes in the first 13 picks, then one of the defensive backs should be there. (Unless, of course, the draft plays out like our Mock Draft on Wednesday.)

(“Air it Out” pick — CB Jaire Alexander) — Marques, Bill & Rookie (The Fan)

15 — OAKLAND RAIDERS  (FROM ARI) — OT MIKE McGLINCHEY — NOTRE DAME — Raiders could take him at No. 10, but move down, and still get him.

16 — NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (FROM BAL) — QB LAMAR JACKSON — LOUISVILLE — I just really want to see Lamar Jackson in New England. (Selfishly)

17 — LOS ANGELES CHARGERS — DT DA’RON PAYNE — ALABAMA

18 — SEATTLE SEAHAWKS — CB JAIRE ALEXANDER — LOUISVILLE — Swagger that fits in Seattle. Good man-to-man corner with speed. This feels like a fit.

19 — DALLAS COWBOYS — LB LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH — BOISE STATE

20 — DETROIT LIONS — DE MARCUS DAVENPORT — TEXAS SAN-ANTONIO — A lot of pass-rushing potential comes to the NFC North. (Maybe Green Bay?)

21 — CINCINNATI BENGALS — C FRANK RAGNOW — ARKANSAS — Pick your offensive lineman here. I’ll go Ragnow, just because.

22 — DENVER BRONCOS (FROM BUF) — RB DERRIUS GUICE — LSU — Broncos move down, and get a ton of value with Denzel Ward and Derrius Guice. This pick helps Case Keenum a lot.

23 — BALTIMORE RAVENS (FROM NE) — WR CALVIN RIDLEY — ALABAMA — Ozzie Newsome loves Alabama. He loves it even more when he can move down, and still get this guy.

24 — CAROLINA PANTHERS — WR D.J. MOORE — MARYLAND — My favorite wide receiver in the draft. Tough, athletic, everything. Should be a first-round pick.

25 — TENNESSEE TITANS — LB RASHAAN EVANS — ALABAMA

26 — ATLANTA FALCONS — DT TAVEN BRYAN — FLORIDA

27 — NEW ORLEANS SAINTS — TE DALLAS GOEDERT — SOUTH DAKOTA ST. — Love this guy, and would love to see him in an offense that can utilize his skillset. (Another selfish pick)

28 — PITTSBURGH STEELERS — CB JOSH JACKSON — IOWA — Steelers always seem to find great value in the late first round, don’t they?

29 — JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS — WR COURTLAND SUTTON — SMU — I like him a lot. I want him to slide to the Packers at No. 45, but he’s just too good to fall that far. Right?

30 — MINNESOTA VIKINGS — OG ISAIAH WYNN — GEORGIA

31 — NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS — OT KOLTON MILLER — UCLA

32 — PHILADELPHIA EAGLES — OG WILL HERNANDEZ — UTEP — Late run on offensive linemen to end the first round.
