The Milwaukee Brewers finished their first homestead of the 2018 season with a 2-5 record. If not for two walkoff wins — last Tuesday against the Cardinals and Friday over the Cubs — the Brewers would have gone winless in seven games at Miller Park after starting the season by the sweeping the San Diego Padres.
Coming into the season, new acquisitions Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich were expected to reduce the number of strikeouts, and create a more potent offensive attack.
However, with Yelich on the disabled list, the Brewers hit .210 on the homestead and just .150 with runners in scoring position. Those numbers were inflated by what they did against the Cardinals, as they were much worse against the Cubs, hitting just .183 overall and .053 with runners in scoring position. In the homestead, Cain went 4-for-33 (.133) at the plate.
In their past five games, the Brewers have been shutout three times.
Defensively, the Brewers have already committed a league-high 14 errors.
All things considered, they’re fortunate to be 5-5 on the young season.
