Giannis leaving the Bucks? Say it ain’t so

Gordon Hayward left the Utah Jazz. (He announced he’ll sign with the Boston Celtics this week.)

Kevin Durant left Oklahoma City Thunder. (He just won his first championship with the Golden State Warriors.)

There’s a theme there: Small-market teams losing their star player for what the player perceives to be a better situation.

Utah and Oklahoma City, respectively, did just about everything possible to keep their superstars around. Utah put together a nice young core, and has a promising head coach, while the Thunder, at one point, had last season’s top two MVP candidates in Russell Westbrook and James Harden.

Milwaukee? Well, the Bucks are still hoping to “own the future.” But that would be a lot harder if Giannis doesn’t have Milwaukee in his long-term plans.

It’s not time to panic yet; Giannis just signed a four-year, $100 million extension last summer. But it’s never too early to start thinking about the “future,” for real.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, on the Russillo Show on ESPN Radio, shed some light on the Giannis situation on Wednesday. (Check out the full story at Sporting News)

“Milwaukee’s going to go through this with the Greek Freak. That day’s coming, right? Where he’s going to look and say, ‘Where is this organization? What are they doing here?’ Like, you don’t think Giannis has been watching what went on there for the last several months? Of what they allowed to go on with the front office? He’s watching it. And the clock has started. Everybody in the league is trying to figure out how they are going to get him out of there. That has started.”

Marques, Bill & Rookie will discuss this (and more) on “Air it Out” (9-11 AM) on The Fan. (Stream the show online at TheFan1075.com)
