Busy day for the Brewers: Trades, calls and Giants

The Milwaukee Brewers host the San Francisco Giants tonight at Miller Park. It should be an interesting matchup between two of baseball’s surprise teams: the Brewers have surpassed expectations and sit atop the NL Central, while the Giants have fallen flat and are looking up at the rest of the NL West.

Away from the diamond, the Tyler Thorburg trade is now complete, as the “player to be named later” has been named — it’s 18-year-old shortstop Yeison Coco. He’s ranked by Baseball America to be Boston’s No. 25-ranked prospect, per CBS Boston.

The Brewers also got third baseman Travis Shaw in the Thorburg trade. Shaw has 10 home runs and 40 runs batted in for the Brewers, but in another move Monday, the team placed him on paternity leave. He’ll be away from the team for a few days while his wife gives birth to the couple’s child. In a corresponding move, Brett Phillips was called up from Triple-A, and will make his major league debut.

It’s a busy day for the Brewers, and we’ll catch up with Jerry Augustine at 4:30 PM on SprotsLine. (Stream the show at TheFan1075.com)
