          Well Packer nation, it happened again. First Darren Sharper, Ryan Longwell, Brett Favre and now Greg Jennings is headed to the land of has-beens.

            Greg Jennings has signed a 5- year $47.5 million deal to play with the Minnesota Vikings. But before you throw any dinner plates or swear at your pets… let's think this through.

            It's been an emotional roller coaster for the majority of the week. Euphoria was flowing with the prospect of signing RB Steven Jackson from St. Louis and the possibility of getting a new deal done to keep Jennings around Green Bay. Then over days, Jackson signs with Atlanta, and Jennings signs with Minnesota, once again leaving the Packers off the free agent bus. Here are a few things to consider before taking the gloom and doom route.

            Too often fans view players as being a fan who's just lucky enough to play for his favorite team. Each player has career and personal goals and while most appreciate the fan's loyalty, it does not factor into their decision making. Let's be honest… if we played college in one state, got drafted in another, and then their rival offered us $47.5 million to be the clear #1 guy… we would do it too. Great business move.

            Also, free agency is not typically used to form the base talent of your franchise. Ted T. invests long term via the draft and will occasionally bring in a key addition like Charles Woodson. Obviously there are holes to fill this year but the fact that teams like Minnesota have to take their major talent away from their opponent to compete is a testament to the Packers style. Green Bay does not need free agency to compete, Minnesota does.

            Now, let's look at who is really missing out. The Packer's CAN replace Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings CANNOT replace Aaron Rodgers. Even with Matt Cassel in town to challenge Ponder for his job, plus the double teams and his injury history…it's unlikely Jennings will ever return to the Pro Bowl.

            For those reasons alone… it's a good day to be a Green Bay Packer's fan.
